Study on the coherence, complementarity, and continued relevance of actions in the Council Recommendation on strengthened cooperation against vaccine-preventable diseases

Since 2018, the work of the European Commission on vaccination has been guided by the Council Recommendation on strengthened cooperation against vaccine-preventable diseases. Along with the Commission Communication accompanying the Council Recommendation, this policy initiative called for a large number of actions to be implemented by the Commission, the EU Member States, and stakeholders with the overall objective of improving the uptake of vaccination across the EU in a life-course perspective. To implement the actions, a Commission Roadmap was drawn up, defining 28 actions and 62 deliverables. This ‘Study on the coherence, complementarity and continued relevance of actions in the Council Recommendation on strengthened cooperation against vaccine-preventable diseases in view of possible similar policy initiatives in the future’ aims to support the Commission for possible policy developments in the future. The Study (i) assesses the relevance of the actions in the Roadmap in the short to medium term (2-5 years) (ii) assesses the coherence and complementarity with other related policy initiatives in order to identify possible synergies and avoid duplication and (iii) identifies the most relevant actions that could be further developed and made sustainable to remain relevant on a longer term (+10 years).
